7/6/2023 0 Comments Cubemen iosCubemen 2 is an amazing game and a great fit for Nintendo players. "We've spent the last few months working with both Nintendo and 3 Sprockets, the game's developer, to make this a reality. "I'm really proud to be able to announce this," said Nic Watt, Creative Director at Nnooo. Players on the Wii U version will be able to battle against other players who own the game on Wii U, PC, Linux®, Mac® or iOS device. Players will be able to enter online matches and create and share user-generated levels regardless of which platform they are using. Cubemen 2 is a fast-paced 3D strategy game in which the player controls an army of Cubemen, using them to battle against enemies in a range of modes. In a world first for an indie game on a Nintendo platform, Nnooo is bringing cross-platform multiplayer and user generated content to the Wii U system with the hugely successful Cubemen 2. So all in all, with a budget price, Cubemen is worth the money if you need a dose of tower defense fix.Nnooo brings cross-platform multiplayer to Wii U™ with indie hit Cubemen 2™ Even though the look of the game is dull, the element of moving the guards (Cubemen) around any number of times makes the game interesting. The developers at Three Sprockets have created a fine tower defense hybrid title. The good thing about this simplicity is that it needs minimal resources on the system and therefore runs without any glitches. The shadowing looks okay and there are a few colors here and there which looks okay going with the simplicity of the game but this does mean that it is going to get no appreciation for its graphics. Even a little texture to this grey area would have done the trick but as it is, it looks very dull. For example the floating cubes against pure dark grey background look incomplete. In fact at a few places it looks simple to a level of fault. Cubemen has 20 different levels specifically designed for this mode, so, these levels along with the single player modes, are enough to keep you busy while playing the game.Īs one might except with all cube game play, the graphics of the game are too simple. Here you practically play two games until someone's base is destroyed. The main attraction of the game is the Skirmish mode where you are up against the AI or another player. There is no shortage of design varieties and you will always find something interesting or strategic to use, like the elevated portions add to your defense value. As mentioned above, the game interface is completely designed and composed on cubes with bridges, floating cube platforms and elevated portions. The single player mode has 6 levels and is like any other tower defense game. As the game progresses the enemies continue to push your Cubemen further until they are destroyed. Pick anyone of your Cubemen and place them wherever you any number of times. Though your Cubemen can't be upgraded, it is not necessary that you keep them at the same location where you placed them initially. You have to deploy your Cubemen at strategic locations which decide the result of the game. It is a strategy based game where you have to protect your base from the approaching hoard of enemies. Starting from the towers to your men, all are cube shaped making the Cubemen title name appropriate. This combination has been ingrained into our heads and in Three Sprockets new tile Cubemen too we can see the same color combinations of men standing against each other.Ĭubemen is a tower defense/RTS hybrid game which takes its title seriously and has the whole game designed on cub shapes. A 7” dry cut blade sold for over $100, and 14” and 20” blades could sell from $ 400 to over $800. In the 80’s and 90’s, cost was a major drawback to the diamond blades. You could use it right on the scaffold, but they were not as accurate as using a masonry table saw. The “Quickie Saw”, as it was nicknamed, became a very fast way to make cuts. With the availability of the new laser welded 12” and 14” dry cut masonry blades, contractors started to use handheld power cutters. This opened up a whole new set of opportunities for mason contractors to use dry cut blades on their wet cut 14” and 20” wet cut saws, as well as other electric tools like angle grinders and 7” worm drive saws. This all changed in the early 1980’s when laser welding from the aerospace industry was used to laser weld a diamond segment onto the steel blade core. In addition to the silica dust, asbestos was also found in some of the blades.ĭuring this era, dry cutting was not typically a consistent option because of the excessive blade wear. Now you are dealing with not only the dust generated from dry cutting, but also the dust and debris generated from the carborundum blade as it disintegrated. Within 10 to 15 minutes you could go through a 14” blade. Although the cost was much less than diamond blades, a major drawback was that the blades wore out and disintegrated fast. Mason contractors started to cut dry using carborundum type abrasive blades. Options for dry cutting masonry in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s was limited. A secondary benefit of using water was that it helped control the dust. All of these saws required water to keep the blade cool. Water was required to avoid over heating the blade, melting the brazing or weld between the segment and the steel blade core, and potentially losing one of the diamond embedded segments. In those days you were a considered a “real” mason contractor if you had 14” and 20” masonry saws on your jobsite.įor many, many years, wet cutting was the only way to cut. These were all wet cut designed to be run with water. These new masonry saws became widely used in the 50’s and 60’s, especially as electric versions powered at 120 volt or 240 volt, or powered by a small gasoline engine became available. They created similar stationary masonry saws that could also be used on jobsites. Over the next 40 years, several manufacturers jumped into the masonry saw business. This new saw, coupled with the diamond blade, changed the way masonry materials could be cut on jobsites and it started to replace the trusted hammer and chisel for cutting. That changed in 1936 with the invention of the Clipper Electric Masonry Saw. At the time, there were no practical applications for use on a jobsite. Diamond blades, as they were called, were used in factories on very large specialty machines. These segments were brazed/welded to a steel core and completed the blade. The cutting or grinding was possible by using diamond grit or chips embedded in a metal matrix creating the segment. In 1926, a blade was invented that could cut stone, brick, and concrete masonry materials. In this part of the article, we will now focus on the Masonry saws and blades. The last 80 years, however, have seen the greatest innovations in the trade. Masonry has been around for thousands of years. 7/6/2023 0 Comments A good place to stor ephotosMetadata management helps instantly locate and retrieve stored images no matter how vast the photo library. It also allows users to find images based on author, date and other specific bits of information. The power of metadata extends further than just a few tags on photos, as well. For example, if you’re trying to find photos on your computer or smartphone that contain dogs, a search for related terms like ‘pet’, ‘sit’, ‘growl’ and ‘bark’ could retrieve them. It allows users to search for images based on extensive keywords. Metadata is information about a file – in this case about an image file. Create a structure for your digital folders. This ensures all future searches and sharing of these types of photos is simple. Then place them into a folder specific to your Hawaii vacation. For example, if you took vacation photographs in Hawaii, name every photo from this set ‘Hawaii family’, ‘Hawaii beach’, ‘Hawaii surf’ and etc. Come up with ways to best name files and do so with future retrieval in mind. Think of your computer folders as real life boxes and name them things that are specific to the photos stored inside.įile naming should be handled in a similar fashion. Your digital photos should be no different. This helps you find and sort your items in the future. For example, when you pack items from a house into boxes, you label the box with very distinct terms. Think of your digital organizational tasks the same way you think of physical organization. Create transparent folders and file naming systems In this article, we’ll discuss five unique strategies to make the process easier. Make sure you’re following an optimized system. There are a lot of different ways to clean up your digital image storage, believe it or not. It helps you find the right images without any stress or hassle. In the digital age, we no longer ask ourselves if we should organize our digital images. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Reverse searing steakIf you’re concerned that the steak is too big, I find that one two-inch thick rib eye is enough for two people. I find the whole process much less stressful, especially if I’m cooking multiple steaks. Only works on thick steak – The method breaks down if the steak is less than an inch thick.More time-consuming – It’s faster to throw a steak on the grill and flip it a few times until it’s done. The reverse sear definitely isn’t a perfect method for every cut of meat. With the reverse sear the temperature moves so slow it’s easy to take it off at the right moment.ĭisadvantages of the reverse sear method: There’s also only a narrow window when the center will be perfect. Easier to avoid overcooking – When searing a thick steak, the outside will burn before the inside is done. The Maillard reaction can’t start until most of the steak’s surface moisture has evaporated so this process helps ensure a beautiful crust. Better crust – While the steak cooks at low temperature the surface dries.Inside cooks more evenly – Because the steak cooks at a low temperature first the entire steak cooks more evenly instead of the out side burning while the inside is still raw. This method gives you more control over how the interior of the steak cooks so you can achieve a perfectly uniform medium rare with a beautiful brown crust.Ĭommonly used for steak, this method works for thick-cut pork and lamb chops. The reverse sear method flips this concept on its head by slowly bringing the steak up to temperature in a grill or oven at low heat and then searing it at high heat. The technique commonly used in restaurants involves searing the meat first to form a crust, and then transferring it to an oven to bring the inside up to temperature. The problem is that by the time you reach a nice medium rare temperature in the middle, the outside of your steak will be seriously overcooked. The conventional method of searing steak by flipping it until it’s cooked in the middle works for steaks that are less than an inch thick but falls short when you are cooking proper, thick-cut steak. So you picked up a beautiful steak from the store, and you’re ready to throw it on the grill. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Perfect face ratio templateThe number phi was named (in the 1900s) for the Greek sculptor and mathematician Phidias who lived from 500 BC ““ 432 BC. It isn’t clear where he might have learned of the idea. I also felt the need to draw a page of phi symbols, and please notice I used a lovely golden color in keeping with the theme.Īccording to this site, Euclid explained the Golden ratio formula in his book The Elements, even though he didn’t name it anything. Take it a step further by breaking down the new rectangle into smaller golden rectangles and then drawing a spiral using lines going from one corner to the opposite corner in each square of the golden rectangle. So can every subsequent little rectangle you draw! Notice that the new rectangle you just drew can be separated into the same proportions as the large rectangle.Wherever the end of it lands is where you can draw a lineup and over to make your rectangle. Drop that line down so it overlaps the bottom line of the square.Draw a line from that dot to either the opposite corner.Draw a dot halfway across the bottom line.Try this: If you feel like drawing a rectangle using the Golden Ratio, here’s how you do it: I absolutely cannot explain the math behind it, so go here to understand it in a more practical way. Visually, it is a rectangle, that when cut into a square, results in the remaining rectangle being the same proportion as the original rectangle. (Other names for it are golden mean, golden section, Phi (in mathematics), divine section, golden number, Fibonacci sequence.)Īctually, the Fibonacci sequence is super-closely related to the Golden Ratio, but not exactly the same. The Golden Ratio is an irrational number, approximately 1.618, which is prevalent in nature, art, architecture, and design. Get your geek pants on, fellas! What is the Golden Ratio? Definition I will be focusing mostly on the Golden Ratio in art and architecture here, but I can’t help but touch on how it pops up in nature as well. Luckily for us, there are a handful of people who understand the concept clearly and can explain it to the rest of us cotton-headed ninny muggins. The more you learn about it, the more you will see Golden Spiral Ratio proportions everywhere. It’s one of those concepts that lights up your brain when you discover but is hard to grasp unless you are mathematically inclined. I know just enough about The Golden Ratio to be equally in awe of it and completely baffled by it. We’re going to dive into what was hands down my favorite thing to learn about in art history class: The Golden Ratio. Gary B, Meisner The Golden Ratio: The Divine Beauty of Mathematics “What makes a single number so captivating that it has persisted in our imagination for more than two thousand years?” And the Earth Did Not Devour Him is not that obvious. Moreover, Hunger of Memory is overtly political and ‘basically polemical: it lays out an argument and draws conclusions’ (McKenna p. In Rivera’s case, the subject is purely fictional, although some critics have identified this literary subject with the author. This entails that the subject searching for identity is, in Rodriguez’ case, the author himself, or rather his literary image. Rodriguez, referring to his book, speaks of ‘ssays impersonating an autobiography’ (p. The generic difference is most obvious: Rivera’s work is a fictional narrative, which Héctor Calderón termed ‘novel-as-tales’. However, the differences between the two books are huge. In both works, the protagonist is a Mexican-American or ‘Chicano’. And the Earth Did Not Devour Him and Richard Rodriguez’ Hunger of Memory are about an individual searching for his identity. In conclusion, I will connect my investigations to the question of whether Chicano identity is unified or fragmented.īoth Tomás Rivera’s. Going deeper into the works themselves, I will finally discuss along which lines the two quests for identity develop. Then I will consider the definitions of identity upon which the texts are based. I will first discuss the contextual differences between the two works. And the Earth Did Not Devour Him and Richard Rodriguez’ Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodriguez. R ivera uses his skills as an author and his own background to enhance his stories. In this essay, I will address the question of Chicano identity by investigating two very different texts, that both deal with a quest for identity in a Mexican-American context: Tomás Rivera’s. This emphasizes his theme of a zoo and his characters as the animals. He chose to write "Zoo Island" in the third person because it puts the reader in the position of looking in at the characters. As an author, Rivera copied the dialect of the people he farmed with, giving a realistic feel to his characters and their perspectives. This prompted him to continue his career as an author until he died in 1984 of a heart attack. He wrote his first short story after he was in a car accident in 1946. Rivera worked on farms in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and North Dakota before he got his degree in Oklahoma. The character Jose was most likely based upon himself. He was so highly regarded that he became the chancellor of UC Riverside and he was the first Mexican American to hold such a position in the UC system. He got his PhD in Philosophy at The University of Oklahoma and later taught at high schools. His dream was always to break out of his migrant shell and he did. His parents were Mexican immigrants and he was born in Texas, 1935. Tomas Rivera's own history reflects the situation of his characters. Rivera’s story highlights the inequity and poverty of immigrants during this time, but it also points toward a future where things might change. Rivera’s story describes both the pain and pride that the young Jose feels at realizing his community is larger Knowing this gives the boy and his community a bit of hope. It has churches, schools and other standard facilities that Americans too often take for granted. Despite their greater population, the other town has far more wealth. Jose’s census reveals that there are more people in his “town” than in the nearby town where they get their groceries. The camp is on a farm owned by an American. Jose is a fifteen year old boy who lives in the migrant work camp with many other Mexicans. One of the children, Jose, decides to ward off boredom by taking a census (a population count) to see how many people are in their community. They wake the next day and endlessly repeat the same, excruciatingly boring, cycle. When it’s dark, they go to the market and then back to their meager camp to sleep. The immigrants and their children work in the fields, day after day. Tomas Rivera’s short story, “Zoo Island,” describes how Mexican immigrants suffered in the 1920s and 1930s, but it also offers a bit of hope. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Midautumn festival"Mid-Autumn Festival and its traditions".
